Welcome to episode 68 of the Lesbian Book Club with Clare Lydon as she interviews UK author Kirsty Eyre. Her first novel, “Cow Girl”, won the inaugural Comedy Women in Print Award and a publishing contract with Harper Collins. Kirsty talks about how she stumbled into writing late, but is now fully embracing the world of novel-writing. Throughout lockdown she’s been juggling home schooling, a new puppy, a day job and trying to write her next three books. No pressure!
Clare also does a run-down of the Amazon Lesbian Fiction charts in the US & UK, as well as updating you on the latest news of lesbian fiction conferences & awards season. JD has a little Mount Gay Rum and coke while Denise indulges in a craft brew from Tiny Rebel Brewery called Stay Puft, a marshmallow porter. The ladies share some good news that Denise received and then they have an interesting chat with Marjorie Waldo, the CEO of Arts Garage, a fantastic venue in Delray Beach, Florida where all kinds of music, performers, and artists are welcomed. Marjorie discusses the Covid safety guidelines they've put in place, the acts they've had and the new Garage Kweens show they are putting on in April, how to buy tickets for shows or be a donor. JD dabbles in mixology with a SKYY Cold Brew Coffee Vodka in Coca-Cola while Denise indulges in Jim Beam Red Stag Black Cherry whiskey tonight as they cover the evolution of Valentine's Day from when they were little, then teenagers then adults. In a hilarious discussion of high school hijinks, we learn JD was a bit of a nerd, because of Clara (listen and learn) and Denise tells how you could spend a mere six bucks and buy a Valentine's date in high school with a carnation and a box of donuts. Denise and JD welcome back Tyler the Magnificent Mixologist from Memphis (we named him that, poor guy) who's got quite an impressive cocktail he's created for Valentine's Day, based a few of his girlfriend's favorite things including a rose pedal frozen into the ice cube (how adorable is he?!) Denise is drinking Rock Top Apple Pie Arkansas Lightning whiskey liquer and JD goes for a bit of Goldschlager! The gang has some laughs over answering Denise's question: "What drink did you get sick on when you were younger and still can't drink today?" - Super fun show and plenty of time to practice this cocktail and impress your sweetie next week!
