JD and Denise have a fantastic chat with Miami's Marky G, long time disc jockey, host, presenter and the main juggler of all things for the annual LGBTQ+ Film Festivals. We discuss this year's OutShineFilm Festival - going on NOW-and what it means to the community, running for 24 years in Miami and 13 years in Fort Lauderdale. Mark talks about how the festivals have evolved, what you can expect this year and how they've adapted during these Covid times. Denise and Mark reminisce a bit about how Mark gave Denise her start as a presenter over 20 years ago on an FM dance music station Party 93.1 when it was unheard of for a gay radio talk show to be on your radio. JD and Denise catch up over a drink waiting on Tyler, only to realize JD hadn't sent the link. Awesome! So Tyler joins in, and has a special surprise - he created a cocktail for Denise's Mom! He also teaches us about balancing with citrus or bitters, sweets as well as the delicate art of muddling, all while building the perfect drink, starting with Bob Dylan's Heaven's Door whiskey.  It's a "Marlini" because yes, my mother's name is Marlene. JD and Denise welcome British comedian and author Rosie Wilby joins us to discuss the recent success of her book "The Break Up Monologues", which spawned from a dumping that happened to her a while ago, launching her into collecting stories, facts and statistics regarding break ups- of course, with her own funny insightful spin. She's also got a podcast of the same name. Rosie's book is now available in Australia and The United States, so we discuss traveling during COVID times and all the adjustments that now come with promoting the book. JD and Denise welcome Tyler, our Memphis mixologist, back from his big Middle American Road Trip- from Route 66 to the outskirts of Colorado, Tyler ate and drank his way thru the mid-west. He got major inspiration for his newest creation, aptly called "One From The Road", made with bourbon, brown sugar, spicy New Mexican pepper, and of course some Amaro bitters and a gorgeous garnish. Tyler explains the explosion of flavours and different types of bitters, as well as the Mezcal trend and why we better buy it up soon. We talk Vickie into some day drinking and telling us about her career, her family and her chickens. Denise whips up some black cherry madness with Red Stag-Jim Beam Cherry Bourbon and Virgil's Black Cherry soda, while JD cools down with a lemonade and Absolute Vodka (the Pride edition) while they welcome the one and only Andrea Meyerson of "Women On A Roll" and "Women On The Net". There are very few people who've done more for women's social events than Andrea. From her first softball league, to producing her many stand up comedy shows with the ladies we love, to trips and excursions, films and a new documentary - this is a woman who loves what she does. Amber tells us what inspired her take a risk and quit her job as a retail jewellery store manager and open up her own doggy boutique once she and her wife Gina (Denise's cousin) got their dog, Zita, an adorable labradoodle who makes a guest appearance. Denise and JD have a drink and a very cool chat with out, British musician, songwriter, artist, and creator MiRi. She talks to us about her lead acting role in the "She's in London" web series, her music and working through a world wide pandemic. We also discuss her inspirational T-shirt project and how it came about through her quest for finding comfort in her individuality. JD and Denise welcome JD's singing side kick from the good old days of dive bar gigs, Judy Routely, who is also our mixologist Tyler's Mom. Judy brings some amazing rums while Denise tries her hand at mixing Jaegermeister and Coke. JD and Judy talk about how they met and decided to sing together, Denise discusses her bad haircut trauma, and JD and Judy sing some quick covers including an Eagles and a Grateful Dead tune. Denise hits the Keepr Honey Smoked Bourbon hard after she gets a really bad hair cut, JD does a little mixology again and the ladies welcome film maker Christin Baker. Christin recently launched her own film production company "Baker Films" after her successful LGBT streaming service, Tellofilms.com - where she produced and directed lesbian content for paid subscribers.
