Welcome to episode 69 of the Lesbian Book Club, where Clare interviews UK author Kate Davies. Kate is a novelist, screenwriter and author of children's books. Her debut novel “In At The Deep End” won the 2020 Polari Prize and was shortlisted for the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse prize for comic fiction. Tyler, our Memphis mixologist from the ultra trendy bar "The Gray Canary" (as well as "Eight and Sand") visits with us again! JD is a little late getting in but Denise and Tyler have a quick catch up and some whiskey chat while Tyler explains his inspiration for this "Front Porch Pounder"- a drink you can love while sitting on your front porch on a warm weekend. It's really a modern, grown up riff on the classic college jungle juice. He's almost ready to share some eclectic, electric neon-colored summer drinks but NOT yet, it's still Spring so we're cruising slowly and savoring this pretty drink made with whiskey, cappaletti, lemon juice, cynar, vanilla extract, dash of sugar syrup! JD and Denise have a drink and ... a big ol' chat with actor, writer, producer, animal lover Jill Bennett, who tells us about life in L.A. lockdown and how she's been keeping busy (and sharp!) Also, big news on some very cool future projects and a little tea spilled on wife, Lauren Neal's latest project - writing, directing a Hyundai car commercial that debuted at the GLAAD Media Awards (available on YouTube to see). JD and Denise have some cocktails (Coffee with Coffee Infused Vodka, and a classic Whiskey Sour) tonight while Denise introduces her friend of over 30 years, Debbie Savigliano, the founder of Bianca's Kids, a 501c3 Non-Profit Charity Organization out of New Jersey that grants wishes to families and children in need. Debbie shares the story behind starting the organization after losing her 21 year old niece, Bianca, who was struck and killed by a car as she walked to work at a daycare center early one August morning. Debbie shifted her grief into creating Bianca's Kids to honor her niece and the results have been incredible as the group has now granted over 30,000 wishes for kids all over the country and continues to do good with donations in all forms from time and goods to checks.
